So you’ve fallen for the Newfoundland. They’re 150 pounds of drool, devotion and dog hair, and once one of them leans against your leg your heart belongs to them. Wanting a Newf is the easy part. Knowing where to start and who to ask is where a little guidance goes a long way. That’s where we come in.
The Newfoundland Club of New England is hosting an educational event alongside our Fall Fun Day, and it’s built for anyone who wants answers before bringing a Newf home.
What we’re going to talk about
Pull up a chair with people who’ve spent their lives around this breed. Ask the questions you’ve been Googling at midnight and hear from folks who know the answers.
We’ll cover what to look for in a breeder and how to recognize red flags. You’ll meet some of the NCNE breeders in person and get to ask them anything.
We’ll talk rescue too, because there’s more than one path to bringing a Newf home. Members of the NCNE Rescue team will be there to walk you through what to expect and answer your questions.
And since a Newf is a lifelong companion, we’ll get into what comes after homecoming. Training. Socializing. And grooming, which with this breed becomes a whole way of life.
Breeders
Choosing a Newfoundland breeder is about building a relationship. A responsible breeder values education, transparency and a lifelong commitment to the dogs they produce. If you take one thing away from the day, let it be that.
